Coming to iPhone

Say goodnight to the people you love.

Doze is an alarm clock. One tap when you turn in — it sets your alarm and lets a few people know you're down. In the morning, it tells you what last night actually did to you.

No launch emails, no newsletter. One message when it's ready.

You're on the list. We'll be in touch when it's ready.

How it works

Two taps a day. That's the whole thing.

Everything else happens on its own. And on the nights you forget, Doze fills it in the next morning rather than losing them.

At night

You clock out

One press, from the lock screen, without unlocking. It arms tomorrow's alarm and tells your people you're down. Nothing else is asked of you.

In the morning

The alarm clocks you in

Snooze as much as you like — it's measured, not judged, and the evidence says it isn't the sin everyone assumes. Dismissing it is what ends the night.

Then, one question

How rested do you feel?

Asked before you're shown a single number, because seeing one first would change your answer. It's the only thing that makes the rest of this honest.

What your friends see

Whether you're up or down. Nothing else.

They can see

  • Whether you're up or down, right now.
  • Roughly how long you've been down — "asleep · 2h".
  • What time it is where you are.

They can't

  • When you went to bed. Never a time.
  • How long you slept, or how well.
  • Last night, last week, or any night before this one.
  • Your alarm, or how you rated a morning.

There's no history to share, because Doze never builds one for anyone but you. Someone added today sees exactly what someone added a year ago sees: now.

The part nobody else can say

Doze never runs while you sleep.

Every other phone-based sleep app listens all night, or asks you to sleep with your phone on the mattress, or both. One of them will take a third of your battery doing it.

No microphone. Ever. There is no microphone code in the app.
Nothing running overnight. So there's no battery cost to speak of.
Your phone stays on the charger.Across the room, face down, wherever you like.
It reads the log your phone already keeps.Once, in the morning — so the nights you forget to tap still count.

And then, eventually

It tells you something you didn't know.

Not tonight. Doze won't invent an insight on day three — that's how every other app in this category lost people's trust. It waits until it has something worth saying.

How much you actually sleep

Most people are out by thirty to sixty minutes, because they're counting the time they spent in bed. We ask what you think it is on the first day, and come back to it a fortnight later.

Where the missing time goes

Usually not your bedtime — usually the stretch before you actually drop off. It's the one sleep number with a lever attached, and the one wrist trackers are worst at, because lying still in the dark looks like sleep to them.

No score out of a hundred. Those numbers are recipes — every company's is different, none is grounded in anything outside itself, and two people who feel identical can be twenty points apart.

Doze is coming to iPhone.

It's being built slowly and on purpose. Leave your email and you'll hear once — when there's something to open.

You're on the list. We'll be in touch when it's ready.
